On January 13, 2017, an Amtrak employee pleaded guilty in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, to violating the Sex Offender Registration Act. He was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay court fines of $849. The sentence credited the employee for two days in custody and seven days of electronic home monitoring as time served. The imposed sentence was the result of a joint investigation conducted by our office, the Amtrak Police Department, the Chicago Police Department, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The investigation revealed the employee was a convicted sex offender in the state of Wisconsin and failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to Illinois for work.
