Termination of Project Code 008-2022: Audit of Capital Planning Process

On February 22, 2022, we initiated an audit of Amtrak’s (the company) capital planning process. Our objective was to assess the extent to which the company’s capital planning process supports its strategic, financial, and operational goals.

During our work, we interviewed company officials, analyzed the company’s fiscal year (FY) 2022 capital work plan and FY 2022 – 2027 Service and Asset Line Plans, reviewed a sample of project requests, and interviewed relevant external parties. During our work, however, the company initiated a series of changes to its capital planning process. Because of these ongoing initiatives, it is too early to assess the extent to which these changes may impact the process. Accordingly, we have decided to terminate our audit at this time.
