FORMER EMPLOYEE CONVICTED AND SENTENCED FOR FRAUDULENT RECEIPT OF PANDEMIC RELATED FUNDS

A former Amtrak electrician based in Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced August 6, 2026, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, to two years of probation and was ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution and complete 30 hours of community service. The former employee pleaded guilty to one count of state financial institution fraud. Our investigation found that the former employee submitted applications containing false statements to the Small Business Administration to qualify for Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster loans. As a result, the former employee received $46,846 to which he was not entitled.
