FORMER EMPLOYEE SENTENCED FOR JEWELRY THEFT

September 10, 2026 |  Investigative Summaries

A former Amtrak lead ticket agent based in Sanford, Florida, pleaded no contest on September 10, 2026, in the Circuit Court of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit for Seminole County to grand theft. The former lead ticket agent was sentenced to three years of probation and was ordered to pay a fine of $518. Our investigation found that the former lead ticket agent stole $30,000 worth of jewelry that was left behind on Amtrak’s Auto Train. The former lead ticket agent then provided the jewelry to another Amtrak employee, a former onboard services trainee, who sold the jewelry to a pawn shop. When interviewed by our agents, both former employees admitted to their involvement in the theft and that they split the money obtained from the sale of the jewelry. Both resigned after our interviews and are not eligible for rehire.

The former onboard services trainee was previously sentenced to 30 months of probation, and 50 hours of community service.
