THEFT OF AMTRAK PROPERTY

On October 5, 2016, a former Amtrak employee pleaded guilty to theft of Amtrak property in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, and was sentenced to 2 years of probation and ordered to make $9,000 in restitution to Amtrak. This was a joint investigation conducted by the OIG and the Amtrak Police Department. The investigation revealed the former employee stole Amtrak batteries and scrap metals and sold them to a recycling center.
