Amtrak received notice that a mailing was being sent using a reference to Amtrak, and possibly was an identify theft or financial theft scheme. The mailing also contained an Amtrak logo. The promotion was allegedly sent by Sunshine Promotions, 901 31st Street NW, Washington, DC 20007.
On December 3, 2009, Office of the Inspector General ("OIG"), Office of Investigations ("OI"), sent a Management report to [REDACTED] regarding Safety Committee purchasing a soda vending machine to benefit the [REDACTED] crew base. Further information was that no reports had been forwarded to Management regarding the funds collected by the Safety Committee.

Congressman Oberstar requested that the Amtrak Office of Inspector General ("OIG") investigate the circumstance in which the State of South Dakota ("SD") replenished its Aeronautics Fund with Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 ("TRA-97") funds after the expenditure of 1.5 million dollars for the purchase of a State airplane.
